Public IP and private IP
Phones and laptops inside a home use private addresses such as 192.168.x.x. Those stay on the local network. The public IP address is the one websites see. My IP, what's my IP, and my IP address all refer to that public number.
IPv4 and IPv6
IPv4 looks like 203.0.113.10. IPv6 is longer and uses colons. If your provider gives you both, the main page lists each one on its own row with its own copy button.
The address can change when you move from Wi-Fi to mobile data, or when a VPN connects.
